How do I provide my tax/financial documents for review?

Our clients have access to our secure online portal system where they can login and upload each of the documents we require. Our system also allows our clients to store their tax documents year-over-year and have access to all items we prepare, such as tax returns, financial plans, etc.

Why must I provide my tax/financial documents prior to receiving a fee estimate?

Our process is actually similar to what you experience when you take your car to a mechanic. It would be next to impossible, and actually a disservice to you, to try to provide a fee estimate without ever even having looked under the hood. And we cannot do that before we have a more complete understanding of your tax/financial situation. 

Just like a car, every tax situation has a lot of moving parts. We need to examine prior years’ returns, current year’s tax documents, QuickBooks files, etc. before we can begin to determine what your true needs are and how we can best partner with you to meet those needs.

How much does tax preparation cost?

As you might expect, tax preparation fees vary widely depending on the complexity of each tax situation. We do not charge an hourly rate or per form flat fees. Our fees are based on the expertise required to complete the tax compliance process with a high degree of professionalism.

How do you ensure that your tax clients get to take advantage of all the tax benefits available to them?

Each year our clients are required to complete an online Tax Organizer found in their client portal account. This digital questionnaire is updated annually to include any recent changes to tax law that might apply to individual or business tax filings. We carefully review the answers provided in the Tax Organizer to determine any and all deductions, exclusions, or credits that may apply to each client’s situation. In addition, we thoroughly review all client tax documents to ensure complete and accurate reporting.

How do you ensure that no tax information is forgotten or excluded on a tax return?

Ultimately, each tax return is the responsibility of the individual(s) or business for whom the filing is made. However, we make every effort to inform our clients of any suspected omissions. For returning clients, we carefully review the completed Tax Organizer and all tax documents and compare what was provided to prior year information. Any differences may point to missing documents that our clients need to track down and upload to the portal account. Our clients are also able to thoroughly review their completed tax return prior to approval.

How do you ensure that your tax clients understand how things are being reported on their tax return?

Here at McDonald Tax and Wealth, we believe that each of our tax clients should have an understanding of the ins and outs of their unique tax situation. While other tax firms and big box tax compliance chains will prepare a tax return with little to no client involvement, we take a more consultative approach, providing our individual tax compliance clients with as much detail as possible about their tax return.

In an effort to provide concierge-level service, ALL individual tax returns we prepare include a customized video walk through where we highlight important information relevant to each client’s tax situation. This video is hosted by our tax professional and is available for review prior to final approval of each tax return. It’s one of the favorite little extras that we love to offer to our clients!

Is your tax practice open year-round?

Unlike most "pop-up" tax compliance chains that are long gone once tax season ends, we are here for you year-round. We are available any time you need us - when you decide to finally sell that rental property, adopt that child, start that new business, and everything in between. We're here to consult with you and make certain you're making the best possible tax-related decisions.

Do you work with clients outside of Nevada?

Yes! We have many clients living as far away as Alaska, Hawaii, and Florida. Our secure online portal system enables clients to work with us no matter where they are located. And while we love seeing our clients face-to-face, we have many whom we’ve never even met in person! We provide the highest level of service and security through our online system allowing our clients to provide us what we need from the comfort of their own homes.

Will My Information Be Kept Confidential?
